"Angels In Orange" Help Clear Storm Ravaged Streets In Chester County

RADNOR Twp., Pa., (CBS) -- PECO crews were busy throughout Chester and surrounding counties trying to restore power on the day after a massive ice storm.

Drivers still swerved around trees still blocking many roadways.  Lots of traffic lights still weren't working, with those that did operate powered by portable generators.

In Radnor Township, work crews loaded tons of limbs into a shredder.  While in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, a special group of workers, dubbed "Angels in Orange" appeared hours after the storm to help clear away fallen trees and debris.  The "Angels" named for their bright orange safety attire, are actually State Gamelands Maintenance Supervisors, specially trained using chainsaws to help clear state game preserves.

Now, they worked long hours, helping clear streets for neighbors and emergency personnel, getting many expressions of thanks.

Aron Chernoff, operations manager for Club La Maison, says many of his members and families have spent hours at the Club, taking advantage of warm showers and a place to charge electronic devices.

And Lauren Bednar explained she is very busy caring for her 87-year-old grandmother who is without heat.

SEPTA and Amtrak officials say there's still no firm time for restoration of service on service to Harrisburg and the regional rail line to Thorndale (See Related Story).

And finally a warning from police: if you get caught driving around a barricade to use a closed road ,you won't just get a ticket, you will, under a new law, be cited for the cost of any accident you might cause.
