American Airlines flight heading to San Francisco Airport strikes multiple birds near PHL

An American Airlines flight departing Philadelphia International Airport landed back at the airport after striking multiple birds shortly after takeoff, officials said.

The flight, AA 2035, was heading to San Francisco when the bird strike occurred, an airline spokesperson said.

"The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the gate under its own power, where customers deplaned normally," the American Airlines spokesperson said in an email.

Passengers were being connected with a replacement plane to get to San Francisco, and the plane involved in the bird strike was taken out of service for an inspection.

A spokesperson for PHL said there were no reported injuries.
