Alex Scott: A Stand For Hope Telethon Helps Raise Money And Awareness On Child Cancer

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- CBS 3 and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation are teaming up to raise money for research and new treatments for childhood cancer.

During the daylong telethon, people get a chance to share their stories and talk about how childhood cancer has affected them, all while bringing in funds for the organization.

"The money that people are donating is having a huge impact and it's actually changing and saving lives."

Liz Scott is Alex's mom and the co-executive director of the foundation.

"My daughter Alex was a big believer in funding research and she saw firsthand, not just for herself, but how many other children needed cures. She passed away when she was eight and a half, but she had raised $1 million. We are continuing that now more than a decade later."

This year marks the station's 10th annual telethon on behalf of the charity.

Over the last nine years, the telethon has raised more than $12 million for the cause.
