A New Face In The Fight Against Hunger

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For more than thirty years, Philabundance has served as the food pantry hub across the Delaware Valley. Now, they have a new face leading the way.

Philabundance will welcome Glenn Bergman as Executive Director in June. He comes to the group, through Weaver's Way, where he served as General Manager for 11 years.

"I have learned that it is not just people that are on public assistance," says Berger, "but it's a lot of working people who just don't have enough money to make ends meet."

According to Philabundance, almost a million people in our area don't have enough food each day. Within the past year, that number has increased by almost 25-percent.

Bergman says hunger is a big issue in the Delaware Valley.

"Not only for Philabundance, but for every food bank, for every agency trying to find food for people, it's the access to that food, that is the biggest problem." Says Bergman, "And that's why working together, we have to make this happen."

He hopes to team with large food-related agencies in the region and together, eradicate hunger for good.
