5 Eagles Who Defended Chip Kelly This Week

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Unfortunately, it's becoming routine.

Chip Kelly surprisingly trades a player, said player has something negative to say about Kelly and/or the Eagles, and the current Eagles players defend their head coach. Maybe all of the ex-Eagles just loved it here so much, their bitterness comes out as soon as they get traded or released. You know, like an ex-girlfriend.

The latest to fit the mold, is now Steelers cornerback Brandon Boykin.

Anyway, here are five Eagles players who publicly defended their head coach this week, as training camp began.

5. Connor Barwin

"I think he communicates as much or more than any other coaches that I've played before," Barwin said Monday, of Kelly. "I think that everybody understands that if you have something to say you can go say it to Chip and he communicates why he does everything he does. So, I feel like he's as easy to communicate as any coach that I've ever played for."

4. Malcolm Jenkins

"When it comes to football, everybody has their own opinion. They can like Chip, they can not like Chip. Everybody here has a job to do at the end of the day, and if you don't like your working environment, then you can always quit.

"And I think everybody's completely happy with being here, and the guys who are here are excited about being here."

3. Jason Peters

"Anytime a guy gets traded or released they always have bad things to say, never good things to say," Peters said of Boykin's comments. "Some guys take it personal, some take it as a way of life. Chip Kelly is a player's coach. You have to understand Chip. He's different than Andy Reid or any other coach that I had. He won't come at you directly and pull you aside. He's a different cat. You have young guys that don't want to change or abide by Chip's rules. He's the boss and you're going to abide by his rules or you're not going to be here. I had to change. Every time you get somebody new, you might get a new offensive line coach, he might change your technique. You might be stuck in your ways, you have to change for the best."

2. Jason Kelce

"Being a year older, you naturally get the aches and pains, but right now I feel good," Kelce said on Tuesday. "Physically, my body weight, in terms of lean muscle mass is the best it's ever been since I've been a pro, and I think that's a credit to Chip and his sports science system. My weight in general is right where I want it, and I don't get tired very easily. Again, it's a great credit to Chip and the team's sports science department."

1. Brad Jones

"Honestly, the team cohesion is better," Jones said, when asked to compare the Eagles' culture to the Packers' (his former team). "Honestly. It's the same, if not better."
