1 Dead, 4 Injured After SUV Strikes Tree In South Jersey

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP , NJ. (CBS) -- One person is dead and four others were injured in a crash in Atlantic County, New Jersey.

It happened shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday along Ocean Heights Avenue near the intersection of Harbor Avenue in Hamilton Township.

Police say the driver of a Ford Freestyle lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road and slammed into the tree.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The names were being withheld pending notification of family.

Traffic was diverted for about five hours as result of the crash.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
