Police: Suspect Arrested In Fatal Stabbing Of Mastic Teen

MASTIC, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teenager has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of another teen after a dispute escalated into violence on Long Island, police said.

Michael Dennis, 19, was arrested Saturday and charged with manslaughter in the death of 17-year-old Trevor Bender, police said.

Around 5 p.m. Friday, Bender was a passenger in a car that was stuck in traffic in Mastic, police said.

Authorities said Bender and the 18-year-old driver got out of the vehicle after getting into an argument with a group standing on the corner of Mastic Road and Moriches Avenue. They said the pair approached the group and a male stabbed Bender in the chest.

The suspect then fled the scene, police said.

Bender, of Mastic, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Dennis is being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Sunday.
