Residents: Clean Up Scudder Park In Northport Now

NORTHPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Calls persisted Monday from residents who believe Scudder Beach and Park in Northport, Long Island cannot go any longer without being cleaned up.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the vista right at the water at Scudder Beach is gorgeous. But the view quickly becomes ugly when one looks around inside the park.

On Tuesday, there was wood left from a bonfire all the way back on July 4. The playground equipment is either rusty or the wood rotted – too dangerous for children – and there is garbage left for days on the ground after parties.

And as CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reported last week, the park entrance is a stalled sewer line project, half completed. And across from a children's collage board sits once a beautiful home that is now dilapidated and abandoned, McLogan reported.

"This park has been neglected for a number of years – maybe six, seven, eight years," said resident Anthony Niosi. "If you go to other beaches in Northport, they're kept beautifully while this is constantly being ignored."

A village trustee said there are financial reasons for not cleaning up the park, and they are looking for volunteers to help out.
