Robert Horry On WFAN: Knicks Made A Mistake By Hiring Derek Fisher

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Robert Horry knows a thing or two about winning.

The longtime NBA sharpshooter, who last played in 2008, won seven NBA titles during his 16-year career.

With the NBA Finals in full swing, he joined WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton in studio on Monday morning to discuss the first two games of the series and the greatness of LeBron James.

But the revealing interview went far beyond the Cavaliers-Warriors matchup. Horry offered his thoughts on J.R. Smith and Derek Fisher, who he played with in Los Angeles from 1997-2003.

Fisher, of course, recently finished his first season as the Knicks' head coach. He was hired right after concluding his playing career with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In Horry's mind, Fisher wasn't ready to be a head coach in the league.

"If I played basketball and you played with me, and all of a sudden you become my head coach, there isn't anything you can tell me, dude," Horry told Boomer & Carton. "Because your years in the league were just as long as mine. Why are you coaching me? That's one of the things that I hate.

"...I love Derek to death ... Why bring him in to coach a team with people that he played against and played with? You can't tell me anything."

The Knicks had their worst campaign in franchise history in Fisher's first season, going 17-65.

President Phil Jackson's first choice to be coach, Steve Kerr, has his Warriors three wins away from an NBA championship.
