2 Arrested In Connection With Queens Bar Bouncer's Death After Trying To Break Up Brawl

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have arrested in two people in connection with the death of a bouncer who was trying to break up a bar room brawl in Queens.

CBS2's Valerie Castro reports Elsworth Reid, also known as Dale, worked for the past three years at Johnny's Bar and Restaurant in Ozone Park.

Laverne Reid, his wife, told CBS2 that the bar is a well-known place where patrons cause problems.

"Every day my husband comes home and says, 'Oh, we had this fight there.' Every day he would tell me that," Reid said.

Police said that around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Elsworth Reid tried to break up a fight when the group turned on him.

"They killed him there. They killed him, they beat him to death," Laverne Reid told CBS2.

When police arrived, the bouncer was unconscious and had severe trauma to his body.

"The nurse came and she said, 'I'm very sorry, but I have to tell you this, that he didn't make it,'" Reid told CBS2.

Two men have been arrested and each have been charged with manslaughter and gang assault.

CBS2 reached out to the bar for comment, but no one was available to speak.

Police are still investigating Elsworth Reid's death.
