19 Injured When Bus Slams Into Truck On I-95 In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Nineteen people were injured Wednesday afternoon when a coach bus slammed into the rear of a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 95 in Norwalk, Connecticut.

Norwalk fire crews were called around 3:20 p.m. to the scene. Crews needed 15 minutes to extricate the driver of the bus, who was taken to Norwalk Hospital in serious condition, officials said.

The bus was headed to New York City from Boston, and had 41 people on board, officials said. Eighteen of those 41 people were taken to Norwalk and Stamford hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.

Ambulances form multiple municipalities had to be called in to transport the patients, fire officials said.

The cause of the accident was under investigation by the Connecticut State Police late Wednesday, The highway was down to one lane following the crash, but had been expected to reopen in the late evening.
