Mount Olive Middle School Evacuated After Gas Leak

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A gas leak forced the evacuation of a day care center, middle school and library in Mount Olive Monday morning.

Officials say a gas main at Wolfe Road was damaged by a contractor.

Some 1,300 students were taken to the high school.

The school superintendent said there was a strong odor of gas prior to the evacuation.

"No one was injured in this event, and I'm happy to report all the children remain safe," Mt. Olive Mayor Rob Greenbaum told 1010 WINS.

Classes were canceled for the day but will resume tomorrow.
