Steven Matz Brilliant In Final Rehab Start, Expected To Join Mets Tuesday
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Steven Matz is expected to rejoin the Mets on Tuesday when rosters expand.
The left-hander will be part of a six-man rotation down the stretch, joining starters Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Jon Niese and Bartolo Colon.
The 24-year-old might start this weekend when the Mets take on the Marlins in Miami.
Collins says the team has an idea when @Smatz88 will slide into the rotation but it is not set in stone yet.

On the disabled list since July 10 with a strained left lat, Matz was brilliant in his final rehab start on Monday night for Double-A Binghamton. The Long Island native tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings after throwing six scoreless frames in his previous start.
The organization's top prospect, Matz made his major league debut on June 28 against Cincinnati. He went 2-0 in two starts before getting hurt, allowing two runs on seven hits in 13 2/3 innings pitched and striking out 14.
Relief pitchers Erik Goeddel and Bobby Parnell are also expected to join the club on Tuesday.
With the Mets' win over the Phillies on Monday night and the Nationals' loss to the Cardinals, New York has a 6 1/2-game lead in the National League East entering September.

Niese will start against the Phillies on Tuesday night and Harvey will get the ball in the series finale on Wednesday.
