Diesel Spill Discovered After Fire On Freight Train Locomotive In Ulster County

KINGSTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A fire was extinguished after burning for some time Friday on a CSX locomotive in the Ulster County.

A railroad spokesman said an environmental contractor will clean up diesel fuel spilled from the engine.

CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said the engine started smoking as it traveled through Kingston around 11 a.m. Friday and the crew stopped the train to investigate.

Port Ewen firefighters put out a fire in the engine compartment of the second of three locomotives on the train. Doolittle said the diesel fuel leak was discovered after the fire was out.

Doolittle said no hazardous materials were on the train and no freight was damaged. The train was carrying 97 automobiles from Louisville, Kentucky, to Oak Island, New Jersey.
