Man Accused Of Killing His 82-Year-Old Great-Grandmother

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the death of his 82-year-old great-grandmother and assault on his mother Friday in the East Village.

Police say both women were bound with tape but the younger woman was able to free herself and call police.

Gary Bias was arrested on Saturday on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.

Officers responded to a 911 call shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Lillian Wald Houses and found Ella-Mae Bias with her wrists and ankles bound with tape.

She was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

Bias' 39-year-old mother was treated at a hospital for her injuries.
