Emergency responders at Grand Central for report of odor of gas

Fire at Grand Central Madison disrupts LIRR service

Grand Central Madison is back to normal after emergency responders checked out a report of an odor of gas.

The call came in just after 2 p.m. Monday and there were no immediate reports of any injuries, New York City officials said.

Turns out the odor was caused by a lubricant that was used on a Long Island Rail Road train that had a mechanical issue. The train was taken to the yard for further assessment.

Officials cautioned commuters that mass transit service may be disrupted while the odor is being investigated, but there were no delays, however. For the latest on service status, click here
