8 injured when MTA bus crashes into light pole in Queens

8 hurt in MTA bus crash in Queens

Eight people were hurt when an MTA bus crashed in Queens on Friday morning.

It happened at 57th Road and Main Street at around 6 a.m.

Sources tell CBS News New York the bus driver misjudged the closeness of the curb.

Surveillance video shows the Q-20 bus traveling through the intersection, jumping the curb and smashing into a light pole and ticket machine on the sidewalk right next to the bus stop.

The pole was completely taken down.

"It must be very devastating for the people that were on the bus," Flushing resident Jacqueline Cox said.

"Accidents do happen," Astoria resident Effy Kasandra said.

Samantha Hart, her husband and child all take that bus often. They said they're lucky they weren't out waiting for it when it crashed.

"I have a baby with me. That would be scary. I'll be more cautious of my surroundings," Hart said.

The accident remains under investigation.
