Authorities: Drug Traffickers Disguised Cocaine, Mailed It Inside Children's Birthday Gifts

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD says they've busted a drug trafficking ring.

As CBS2 reported, police worked with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and seized packages of cocaine in June.

Authorities said each package contained two kilograms of cocaine, gift wrapped to look like children's presents and were shipped alongside toys.

"In some cases the packages were disguised as birthday gifts," Donna Harris explained to 1010 WINS reporter Carol D'Auria.

The packages arrived from Puerto Rico via express mail.

Investigators said the ring supplied drug dealers in Manhattan and Bushwick nightclubs.

Five men were arrested in the bust, the scheme was allegedly dreamed up by a Harlem man. The street value of the drugs was nearly $250,000.
