Police: Teenage Boys Repeatedly Slashed In Wooded Area Of Bellport

BELLPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)-- A knife attack in Suffolk County has left two 15-year-old boys hospitalized in serious condition.

The two were heading home late Friday night when they were slashed as they walked through a wooded area, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.

Edwin Andrade, 15, was using a short dirt path as a shortcut between two residential streets in North Bellport. It was late Friday night and his family said he knew better than to be in such a remote place by himself, so he had a 15-year-old friend with him.

However, before they made it out of the woods and onto Michigan Avenue where Andrade lives, both teens were attacked by a suspect who had a blade.

The boys were slashed repeatedly all over their bodies. Neighbors are shocked by the burst of violence in an area they consider safe and quiet.

"That makes my heart hurt because that's a kid. No kid deserves to be hurt like that for any reason," Elsie Lopez said.

The two teenagers are at Stony Brook University Hospital listed in serious condition.

"It's very bad on his hand, belly and legs like they tried to kill him. It's very weird the way it happened," family friend Jose Hernandez said.

Hernandez said he doesn't know why anyone would want to hurt the teenagers. CBS2 spoke to Andrade's parents who did not want to go on camera.

They said they are not able to get details about the attack from their son who just underwent surgery. The motive remains unclear.

Suffolk County investigators did not recover a weapon or release a description of the slasher.
