Rep. Dave Camp announces he won't seek re-election

WASHINGTON - Rep. Dave Camp, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, says he will not seek another term.

The Michigan Republican said in a statement Monday that he will retire after 12 terms in the House. He was term-limited as chairman of the committee.

"This decision was reached after much consideration and discussion with my family," he said in a statement.

"During the next nine months, I will redouble my efforts to grow our economy and expand opportunity for every American by fixing our broken tax code, permanently solving physician payments for seniors, strengthening the social safety net and finding new markets for U.S. goods and services."

His district is strongly Republican and the GOP is expected to hold the seat.

Camp is the second senior Michigan Republican and the second House committee chairman to announce his retirement. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Friday he's retiring to take a gig as a radio talk show host.
