Police arrest father shot by 3-year-old son

ALBUQUERQUE -- Police say they have arrested a man who was shot in an Albuquerque hotel room by his 3-year-old child, CBS affiliate KRQE reported.

The shooting took place at America's Best Value Inn on Saturday after the child reportedly reached into his mother's purse and pulled out the gun. The bullet went through the man's buttocks and thigh, authorities say, and struck his pregnant mother in the arm.

A 2-year-old was also in the room. The children weren't injured.

The father, Justin Reynolds, was arrested Thursday and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm. Police say he should have known of the danger involved in having a loaded gun in the presence of children, and that he neglected their safety and health.

According to KRQE, police also plan to arrest the mother in the incident, who they expected to surrender.
