Massachusetts police kill man who pointed BB gun at them

BROCKTON, Mass. - A prosecutor's office says police in Massachusetts have shot and killed a man who pointed a realistic-looking BB gun at them.

The Plymouth district attorney's office says two Brockton police officers opened fire on 45-year-old Douglas Buckley early Thursday after he pulled the BB gun, which had been hidden behind his back. Buckley was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Officers went to investigate Buckley after a woman told police he had called her cellphone and threatened to burn down a house. The woman indicated Buckley had been drinking. When officers first saw Buckley, he was holding a rifle, which police later learned was a BB gun.

The district attorney's office says Buckley dropped the rifle before reaching for the handgun that shot BBs.

The district attorney's office is investigating.
