Mark Zuckerberg announces wife's pregnancy on Facebook

While many may be faintly annoyed by the over-sharing of distant acquaintances' baby announcements on Facebook, one couple certainly had the right to the social media attention.

Mark Zuckerberg shared the news that his wife of three years, Priscilla Chan, is expecting a girl. Zuckerberg posted this exciting development on his Facebook page to over 33 million followers.

The popular post also touched on a more personal note for the power couple. Zuckerburg discussed their trouble having a child, mentioning that in their efforts they "had 3 miscarriages along the way."

"You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child," wrote Zuckerberg. "You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience."

The post received overwhelmingly positive responses as people expressed support and appreciation for the Facebook founder's honesty and vulnerability.

It garnered about 610,000 likes, 43,000 comments and over 15,0000 shares in just a few hours.

He accredited his ongoing optimism to an open and connected world stating that "discussing these issues doesn't distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope.

Zuckerberg did confirm that at this point the "loss of risk is low" and Chan and the baby are both currently healthy.
