Laverne Cox opens up on "traumatizing" airport pat down
Laverne Cox is ready to move forward after tweeting about a "deeply traumatizing" airport pat down last week.
"It's been a while since I've had a pat down and I think just having a stranger touch me all over my body, I wasn't ready for it and it just brought up all this trauma and I started crying that day," Cox told ET's Cameron Mathison on the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. "It was deeply traumatizing for me."
The "Orange Is the New Black" actress tweeted about the Jan. 24 incident, declaring: "It's deep how unsafe I felt so that we could all be 'safer.'"
"It was just really emotional having a stranger go through every article of my clothing -- but I'm not the only person who's gone through that," Cox told ET on Sunday. "I'm over it. I've done the work and I'm ready for the next time it happens."
Alongside her cast, Cox is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the SAG Awards. Cox's co-star Uzo Aduba is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
