Sec. Kerry: Iran nuclear talks could go either way

Kerry "prepared to walk away" from Iran nuclear talks

VIENNA - Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday negotiations with Iran could go either way - cutting off any potential path for an Iranian nuclear bomb or ending without agreement.

"We are not yet where we need to be," Kerry said.

Speaking in Vienna on the ninth day of the nuclear talks, Kerry said disagreements remain on several significant issues. He says hard choices must be made for a deal to be made by Tuesday, the latest deadline.

As deadline approaches, Iran nuclear deal appears possible

CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan reports that the pace of talks has been slowing as the July 7 deadline near. There has, however, been significant headway made on the topics of sanctions, as well as the possibility of an investigation into whether Iran has already tried to make a nuclear weapon.

Kerry said he wanted to tamp down speculation. He described genuine progress being made but said an accord was still no sure thing.

Kerry said if Iran is intransigent, the U.S. will leave without a pact.

Kerry said no one wants that scenario, but Washington won't "shave at margins" to clinch an insufficient package.
