Hennessy heist: $500K in cognac stolen from truck in Md.

ROSEDALE, Md. - More than half-a-million dollars worth of top-shelf liquor was stolen from a shipping yard in Baltimore County, Md., reports CBS Baltimore.

"They were able to obtain access to a...freightliner truck," said Cpl. John Wachter, Baltimore County police spokesman. "They backed that truck up and hooked it up to a trailer that had a cargo container on it."

Police say just before 5 a.m. on a recent Sunday, the thieves cut a lock on the gate leading to the yard at the Serve U shipping company and hightailed the container off the yard. Inside - more than 2,000 cases of high-end Hennessey Cognac worth $514,000, according to the station.

"We don't know exactly where the cognac had come from or its final destination," Wachter said.

Nine days after the heist, detectives reportedly found the truck and the trailer abandoned in an intersection. When detectives opened the trailer, the booze was gone.

The heist occurred close to St. Patrick's Day, a holiday some associate with heavy drinking, the station notes.

"We'll take everything into consideration as to a motive," Wachter said.

Detectives say they have not identified any suspects or leads at this time.

There's a $2,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
