Ex-Texas cop sought in woman's death detained in Indonesia
AUSTIN, Texas - Indonesian authorities have detained a fired Austin police officer who was being sought in the killing of a pregnant crime victims counselor.
Efforts are underway to return VonTrey Clark to the U.S. so he can be questioned in the death of 29-year-old Samantha Dean, a Kyle, Texas police employee whose body was found Feb. 4.
The Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV jointly report that Clark had a romantic relationship with Dean. Court records indicate he fathered Dean's unborn child and wanted her to have an abortion.
CBS affiliate KEYE reports Clark was detained for a visa violation, and that the U.S. and Indonesia have no extradition treaty.
The station says Austin's police chief announced on July 23 that Clark had been fired.
He hasn't been charged with a crime and his attorney, Bristol C. Myers, says Clark was in Indonesia for a medical issue and wasn't involved in the woman's death.
Three others have been identified in records as allegedly conspiring with Clark in the killing.
