Cops: Father arrested for DUI in crash that killed daughter

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - Authorities say a father crashed his SUV into a rocky embankment in Orange County, Calif., killing his 5-year-old daughter and injuring three children.

Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock said 30-year-old Antolin Brito was arrested for investigation of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence after his Ford Explorer ran through an intersection in San Juan Capistrano shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday.

Hallock said the vehicle kept going through a parking lot and crashed into the embankment, killing 5-year-old Yuliana Brito and injuring three other children inside the vehicle. CBS Los Angeles reports the 5-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, according to the Coroner's Office.

Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock said speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, according to the Orange County Register.

Antolin Brito was hospitalized with broken bones and is in the custody of authorities. Hallock said the driver did not have a valid license and had outstanding traffic-related warrants.
