On the beat with Officers Newton and Bauhof

Being a police officer in Cleveland's 4th District is not an easy beat. Bill Whitaker spent a couple of days with officers Shane Bauhof and Eric Newton, who patrol that neighborhood, considered to be that city's most dangerous.

Officer Newton tells Whitaker: "You always have to have your guard. You always have to be prepared." That preparedness can mean keeping their car windows down in 20 degree below zero freezing temperatures in order to hear possible gunfire. Another tactic in the dead of winter is never to wear gloves, since they can get in the way of calling their emergency radio for help or reaching for their weapons, the officers tell Whitaker.

Officer Bauhof says, "I want access to everything I have on me."
