Billie Jean King applauds 60 Minutes equal pay report
On Sunday’s 60 Minutes, soccer players on the U.S. Women’s National Team – the No. 1 women’ team in the world – told Norah O’Donnell they are paid less and treated worse than the men’s team. And they didn’t rule out the possibility of going on strike if the U.S. Soccer Federation doesn’t begin to pay them equally.
That kind of message resonated with many viewers, including parents:
@60Minutes Thank you @CarliLloyd @beckysauerbrunn @ChristenPress @moeebrian & @hopesolo 4 fighting 4 my daughter's future! #USWNT #FairPay pic.twitter.com/CGcG07V1s9

Not all parents agreed:
@PlayersTribune @ussoccer_wnt @60Minutes You get paid less because you generate less revenue because fewer people watch! #MathIsHard #SJW

Some parents’ minds were changed:
Shoutout to that 60 minutes episode for getting my conservative mother to agree with #equalplayequalpay

We also heard from coaches – some appeared to get a kick out of the story:
@uswomensoccer ... just saw #60minutes ... I coach middle school girls soccer, keep up the fight because it is what you deserve. #fair

And pro athletes, including the legendary tennis champion Billie Jean King:
Thank you @NorahODonnell for profiling the #USWNT and their fight for justice on tonight's @60Minutes. #equalpayforequalwork
