"Hamilton": The backstage tour
On 60 Minutes this week, Charlie Rose takes viewers behind the scenes at “Hamilton,” the Broadway sensation. Still want more? In the video above, the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda gives Charlie Rose a backstage tour of the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where “Hamilton” is staged.
Miranda shows Rose a bin of shoes and boots fit for dancing, and some of the props his 24 actors use, including a portable writing desk, which Miranda jokingly refers to as Alexander Hamilton’s “iPad.”
“Are you exhausted at the end?” Rose asks Miranda about his nightly high-energy performance.
“Yes,” Miranda says, but “I also feel weirdly energized.”
He goes on to explain: “When I’m in the show, the only thing I’m supposed to be doing is playing Hamilton. And I don’t have to answer email. And I don’t have to do the other things. Only be present, and let it happen.”
