Hear Lewis Hamilton's first songs

On 60 Minutes this week, Charlie Rose interviews Lewis Hamilton, a three-time Formula One world champion who is shaking up the sport. But driving isn't Hamilton's only love.

"Music's been a huge passion of mine since I was really young," he tells Rose in the 60 Minutes Overtime video above. "I started playing guitar when I was thirteen."

Hamilton says he's been spending a lot of time in the recording studio, working on an album. "In here, I can be me," he says. "I can be vulnerable. I can show a side of me that people don't get to see."

He plays Rose parts of two new songs, "J'Adore" and "Lookin' at You," that have yet to be released to the public.

"I never thought in a million years that I would have people following me. You know, fans," he says. "I want to share it with them. I want to see what they think."

Getting up to speed with Lewis Hamilton

It's hard to imagine how Hamilton, who has racked up 49 racing victories, has time for a hobby. But he tells Rose that whenever he's not training or getting ready for a race, he's in the recording studio perfecting his sound.

"My work ethic is exactly the same here as it is on the race track," he says. "But it's just here I can be me."

The video above was originally published on December 13, 2015, and was produced and edited by Will Croxton.
