Vikings Stadium Milestone: Last Vertical Concrete Column Poured

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority announced a major milestone Thursday for the construction of the new Vikings stadium: the pouring of the last vertical concrete column on the site.

The MSFA says that over the last 16 months, 10,000 concrete trucks have poured over 1,200 concrete columns, which ended Wednesday. Each truck carried 10 cubic yards of concrete.

"The columns are made up of 17,597 cubic yards of concrete," the MSFA said. "If put end to end, the columns would be 5.3 miles long. The stadium project will use over 100,000 cubic yards of concrete by the time it is finished."

The Vikings stadium is scheduled to open in July of 2016.
