Vikings' Mike Priefer Apologizes For Homophobic Slur

MANKATO (WCCO) -- Vikings Training Camp got underway in Mankato Thursday, but the big news isn't about the players. It's coming from Mike Priefer, the team's special teams coordinator.

Priefer has been suspended for the first three games of the regular season for his homophobic slur called out by former punter Chris Kluwe, who has threatened to sue the team.

Priefer says he has learned from the incident.

"In this regard, in this situation, with my comment, I failed. I didn't just go below the bar, I went way below the bar, you know," Priefer said. "I made a mistake. I was wrong. I brought a lot of undue attention to the Minnesota Vikings organization, I brought an unwanted distraction. And, you know, I apologize."

Kluwe's attorney has not filed a lawsuit yet against the Vikings, and says he is still in talks with the team's lawyer.
