Video shows semitrailer smash into 35W bridge in Burnsville

Motorists jump into action after semi collides with overpass

Dashcam video shows the moment a semitruck trailer collided with a bridge on a busy Twin Cities freeway Sunday afternoon.

It happened at about 4:15 p.m. on northbound Interstate 35W by County Road 42 near the Burnsville split, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

A motorist traveling directly behind the semi captured the moment of impact, as well as the joint effort from other motorists to remove metal debris from the roadway.

No one was hurt, the department said, and the 51-year-old Iowa-based driver was issued a citation for having a vehicle height exceeding 13 feet and 6 inches.

The bridge sustained damage in the crash, though the extent is unclear.

The northbound lanes were reopened about 90 minutes after the collision.
