Tougher H.S. Hockey Rules For Checking, Boarding
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Tougher rules are coming to high school hockey due, in part, to an accident that paralyzed a Minnesota player.
The National Federation of State High School Associations has moved to increase the penalty time for checking from behind and boarding.
Those are considered the two most dangerous plays in hockey.
Minnesota put the tougher rules into play after Benilde-St. Margaret player Jack Jablonski suffered a spinal cord injury sustained after he was checked from behind by another player.
The changes will begin next season in 17 states.
