Study: Mpls. 6th Most Liberal City In US

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis has been ranked as the sixth most liberal city in America, according to The Economist.

The Economist took data from a recent Massachusetts Institute of Technology study, "Representation in Municipal Government," which ranked cities of over 250,000 people.

The Economist then made a chart ranking cities from most liberal to most conservative.

Topping the most liberal list is San Francisco, Calif. followed by Washington, D.C. and Seattle, Wash. St. Paul nearly made the Top 10 list at No. 13.

On the other end of the spectrum, Mesa, Ariz. was ranked as the No. 1 most conservative city in America, followed by Tulsa, Okla. and Omaha, Neb.

The study shows that cities over 250,000 people typically skew toward being more liberal.
