Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Minnesota
RICE, Minn. (AP) — Benton County authorities say a single-engine plane has successfully made an emergency landing about 20 miles north of St. Cloud's airport after experiencing mechanical problems.
The county sheriff's office said Monday none of the four people aboard were hurt during the Sunday landing.
Pilot Craig Burfeind said he detected trouble with the four-seater while flying from Mankato to Breezy Point. Authorities say the 52-year-old hoped to reach St. Cloud Regional Airport but landed on a road northeast of Rice and veered into a ditch to avoid hitting a vehicle. The small plane damaged one of its wings when it hit a utility pole support wire.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
