Officials: Plane Bound For Minn. Crashes, Killing One

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A small plane bound for Minnesota crashed in central Wisconsin Monday morning, injuring two people and killing one.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office said officials got two 911 calls shortly before 10:45 a.m. saying that a plane had crashed near a field by W4314 Center Road in Hoard.

One of those calls was made by the plane's pilot.

The pilot and the surviving passenger were taken to a hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin. A third passenger died at the scene.

The names of all involved are being withheld pending the notification of family.

Tony Molinaro of the Federal Aviation Administration said that the plane was a single-engine, four-seater Cessna 182. It was traveling from Menominee, Michigan to Litchfield, Minnesota.

While the crash is under investigation, the sheriff's office said it appears the plane was having trouble in the area and the pilot attempted to land on Center Road east of Cardinal Avenue.

But during the landing, the plane's wing hit a tree and caused the plane to enter a ditch and smash into several other trees.

The sheriff's office said weather is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The FAA is investigating.
