Sheriff: Doghouse Heat Lamp Cause Of Meeker Co. House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities determined a house fire in Meeker County was caused due to a heat lamp used for pets.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday officers received a call of a house fire in the 23400 block of 685th Avenue.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the homeowner, 46-year-old Allen Hanson, was not home. Officers said a friend had been taking care of Hanson's animals and had discovered the house fire.

Further investigation revealed that the house fire was caused by a heat lamp inside a doghouse that was next to the home.

The Hanson home sustained roughly $20,000 worth of damage. No injuries or loss of animals were reported.

Meeker County deputies were assisted by the Dassel and Litchfield Fire Departments.
