Senate GOP Leader Hann Backs Presidential Hopeful Fiorina

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Senate GOP leader David Hann says he's backing businesswoman Carly Fiorina in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Hann told The Associated Press on Thursday that he will be Minnesota co-chairman of the former technology executive's campaign. He wouldn't identify others involved, saying an announcement would be made in coming days.

The Senate minority leader says he gravitated toward Fiorina because of her unique background and ability to communicate a message effectively. He had been asked by at least two other campaigns to get involved. He says conversations with Fiorina's campaign began months ago.

Minnesota holds caucuses in March.

Hann's main 2016 goal is to retake a Senate majority. He says the strength of the GOP's presidential nominee will go a long way in determining that outcome.
