Paul Ryan's Challenger Launching First TV Ad

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Republican challenger to House Speaker Paul Ryan is launching the first television ad of his longshot campaign.

Paul Nehlen on Monday unveiled the ad which he says was filmed along the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. In the 30-second spot, Nehlen walks through water carrying a tub labeled "drugs." Nehlen says in the spot that smuggling drugs is too easy, and Ryan has failed over 18 years in Congress to fix it.

Ryan's campaign spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Nehlen spokeswoman Kirsten Lombard says the ad will be airing on cable television later this week. She says the cost of the buy is in the five figures.

Nehlen is running his first campaign, arguing that Ryan has failed his southeastern Wisconsin district.
