1 Dead After 2 Water Emergencies In St. Louis County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One man is dead after two water emergencies in northern Minnesota.

The first happened around six o'clock last night in Gilbert. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Jeremy Stevens from Mt. Iron intentionally jumped off of one of the cliffs near the city's beach and drowned in the lake below. Authorities say there were four other people with him at the time. The drowning remains under investigation.

Then, around 10:45 p.m. night, St. Louis County deputies responded to another water emergency. Witnesses say they had to pull a 21-year-old Duluth man out of the water after he disappeared while swimming and jumping on an inflatable trampoline. It happened at Island Lake.

The man was airlifted to the hospital, but authorities have not released his name or his condition.
