North American Pond Hockey Championships Set For Lake Minnetonka Canceled

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Event planners said Wednesday that there won't be any pond hockey happening on Lake Minnetonka later this month.

The North American Pond Hockey Championships were scheduled for Jan. 22-24 on Lake Minnetonka, but our mild start to winter made ice conditions unplayable. There are, however, alternative plans.

Officials said Wednesday instead of pond hockey, they'll host an outdoor bean-bag tournament as well as several other hockey-related games. There will also be bands performing live music in a tent, sponsored by Club Cambria, Friday and Saturday night.

The festivities will take place next to Maynard's Restaurant in Excelsior. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the Hendrickson Foundation and ALS.
