No Injuries In Maplewood Bus Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says no one was injured when a school bus started on fire in Maplewood Tuesday afternoon.

The bus fire -- captured by MnDOT traffic cameras – started at about 2:45 p.m. near Interstate 94 and Century Avenue North.

According to the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District, the bus driver was exiting off I-94 at Century Avenue when he smelled smoke coming from the bus. He then immediately pulled over, placed the bus in park and exited safely. No kids were on the bus and the driver is fine.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation, but the state patrol believes the fire may have started in the engine compartment.

The bus was on the way to pick up students from Transfiguration Elementary School, a private school in Oakdale, Minn.
