Mpls. Interim Superintendent Goar Withdraws Candidacy
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The search for a new Minneapolis Public Schools superintendent will continue with one less candidate.
Interim Superintendent Michael Goar sent a letter to the school board requesting that his name be withdrawn from consideration, which they respectfully accepted.
Goar said in his letter that his candidacy had become a distraction to the ultimate goal of educating Minneapolis children.
He will remain the interim until a new permanent superintendent is chosen.
The board rejected their original top pick, Dr. Sergio Paez, earlier this month.
There was concern over allegations of abuse at his previous school district in Massachusetts.
The board also decided to choose from the remaining two candidates, which were Goar and Charles Foust. The latter currently works for the Houston Independent School District in Texas.
