Mountain Iron To Host 2015 Deer Opener

MOUNTAIN IRON, Minn. (AP) — The city of Mountain Iron has been selected to host the Governor's Deer Hunting Opener in 2015.

The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association made the announcement Friday — a day before this year's deer season begins.

This is the first time the opener will be held in Mountain Iron. The association says the Iron Range is a popular deer hunting and travel area because of its vast forests, including Superior National Forest.

The governor's opener began in 2003 and is held in a different place each year. The event highlights Minnesota's deer hunting tradition, hunting education, and the natural resources in each host community.

There are nearly a half-million deer hunters in Minnesota, generating an estimated $263 million in retail sales every year.
