Mild, mostly dry Monday before rain, wind take over on Tuesday in Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS — Monday will be a mild day with some spotty showers possible in parts of Minnesota early in the day, but the real soaker of a system arrives Tuesday.
Those showers will move across western and central Minnesota through the morning hours. The afternoon will bring a mix of sun and clouds and a high of around 68 degrees in the Twin Cities.
Southwestern Minnesota will be under a red flag warning from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said. Residents in Brown, Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Rock, Watonwan and Yellow Medicine counties are advised not to burn due to extreme fire risk conditions.
Storms move in Monday night, with rain arriving in the metro by the Tuesday morning commute. Tuesday will be rainy and windy across much of Minnesota. In many locations, 1 to 2 inches is likely. Severe weather should stay south of Minnesota with some thunderstorms possible in the evening. Showers should dry out Wednesday but it will stay windy and get cooler.
The wind will be constant into the weekend with the Twin Cites under a Wind Advisory from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Wind gusts up to 45 mph are possible.
Behind the rain, we'll see cooler days, with highs returning to the 50s and lows in the low 40s. Morning lows will flirt with freezing Thursday through Saturday.
