Rain, then ice and snow Friday in Twin Cities before quick Sunday warm-up

Off-and-on showers continue for most of Friday in the Twin Cities amid a classic, messy March storm.

Isolated thunder and small hail is possible, too, mainly for far southeastern Minnesota. A half-inch to 1 inch of rain is expected for the metro southward with less up north.

As colder air wraps in Friday evening into Saturday morning, a swath of light snow will fall across central and northern Minnesota, triggering winter weather advisories from Friday afternoon into the evening hours. Only an inch or so of slushy accumulations are expected, but it could make for bad road conditions.

Sunshine returns Saturday afternoon with a slight cooldown into the 40s before making a run at 60 degrees on Sunday.

Early next week starts warm before another system cools the metro into the 30s midweek.

There is some uncertainty with the amount and location of precipitation with that storm Tuesday.
