Snow passing south of Twin Cities Thursday ahead of arctic blast

NEXT Weather: 6 p.m. report for Minnesota on Dec. 11, 2025

A clipper will throw some light snow to southwestern Minnesota into Thursday afternoon, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible. A winter weather advisory is in effect in that region until 6 p.m. Thursday.

This system will miss the Twin Cities, where cold will be the focus due to highs only in the teens under a cloudy sky.

Another clipper on Friday morning has a better shot to throw some light snow to the metro. It could leave some slick spots for the Friday morning commute, but amounts will be minimal.

Temperatures tumble big time going into the weekend, falling from the teens Friday afternoon to below zero Saturday morning:

  • Saturday morning: wind chills between minus 20 to minus 30.
  • Saturday afternoon: wind chills near minus 20.
  • Sunday morning: wind chills between minus 25 to minus 30.
  • Sunday evening: wind chills between minus 15 to minus 20.

Because of the dangerous cold, NEXT Weather Alerts will be in effect for both days this weekend.

Eventually, the metro will rebound back into the 20s by Monday afternoon with some sunshine that carries over from the weekend.

Temps stay closer to average next week with no major storms on the horizon at this point.
